The club posted several pictures of the bus on their website, showing a shattered side window and damage to the front windscreen. The pictures also showed blood on the driver’s seat and the steering wheel.
Initially there were conflicting reports over the nature of the attack, with Abdulcelil Oz, the governor of Trabzon at first saying that said the driver appeared to have been hit by a stone, while Fenerbahce TV said the bus was attacked by an assailant with a shotgun.
Oz later changed his view, saying the driver appeared to have been hit by a bullet. “The latest situation is that it appears to be a gun,” Oz said. “It is too soon to say anything definite, but it appears to be a type of bullet fired by a rifle.”
The players were travelling from the city of Rize to the airport in the neighbouring city of Trabzon, to return to Istanbul.
