At about 11 o'clock in Mostar there was a serious disturbance of peace and public order. A large group of fans reached the 'pub Ultras' at the Union Station at the intersection of Queen Catherine Street, Franciscan and DIDAK Buntica (the first primary school), and attacked several people who were inside the restaurant. The pub was completely destroyed and four cars were damaged. Hooliganism in Malta was first seen in 1980 during a European Cup qualifier game between Malta and Turkey. It was the last match played in the “Empire Stadium” in Gzira. The Maltese supporters were utterly disappointed with the referee, and in the second half they started throwing big rocks and small stones towards the referee and the Turkish players. The match was abondoned and a group of Maltese supporters managed to steal the Turkish flag and burned it. The hooligan phenomena had arrived... |
