In 1984, the first organized group of OFK fans was founded under the name BLUE THUNDERS. The group functioned under that name until 1990, when, under the presence of ever-growing national identity, the group changed its name to ‘SOKOLOVI’ (Hawks). By 1993, the group fell apart because of the situation that Serbia was in at the time. At such hard times, football seemed pointless. There are many stories to tell from that period of organized supporting, but there is no point telling them individually, because history speaks for itself.
However, all that faith, love and pride were not forgotten, and in the spring of 1994, a new group of OFK supporters was founded - A group for which its city and club were holy – BLUE UNION BELGRADE. The groups name speaks for itself. All the supporters which followed OFK Belgrade now represent the BLUE UNION BELGRADE.
Every beginning is difficult, and the main priority of the group was to – show that it exists, and make a name for themselves in any way possible. Originality and aggression towards every group proved to be effective in accomplishing this. The group also came into confrontation with the clubs board, since the club has been rapidly sinking, and it was up to the supporters to raise their voice. This confrontation also brought problems with the police, who used repressive methods against the group and had the blessing of the club’s board. There was another reason, and that was that the Blue Union was a right wing group, and extremely anti-regime. Apart from the incidents with the police, incidents with rival groups that were in the same league were frequent and unavoidable. The group actively participated in all the popular uprisings throughout the 1990’s, and organized its own actions which concerned the city and the club. These actions put the Blue Union shoulder-to-shoulder with the biggest supporter groups in the country. It is from that time that the friendship with the supporters of FC Vozdovac (INVALIDI VOZDOVAC) lasts, and throughout the years it has become something more than friendship.
With the unification of 1st league A and 1st league B, came a unique project at the time. The ‘BLUE-WHITE INFORMATOR’, which was a magazine of the club and fans, and was the only one of its kind in the country. It was given for free at all the stadium entrances, and consisted of information about the previous, current and the next game, as well as information about the fans. In 2004, the BLUE UNION celebrated its 10 year anniversary, and 20 years of organized supporting at the ‘Omladinski’ stadium. Blue Union has an active friendship with the supporters of Dynamo Moscow. First it was spontaneous, but later, with mutual visits to each other’s grounds, the friendship became more serious, and went to a higher level. In the more recent history, the group is trying to maintain its urban spirit which was its main characteristic all these years. Organization was also brought to a much higher level, which means that the group started focusing more on its marketing materials, increasing its group membership, as well as making well-organized choreographies on the stands.
From 1994 until today, many things have changed, those kids that had started it all are still present, and one thing is for sure – the BLUE UNION still follows the club wherever it goes, and will continue to do so forever!
